Bridgnorth Ukulele Band is no more.
Eight years ago, a friend (Stuart) showed me his new ukulele and I was immediately hooked!
I went travelling for a couple of weeks, taught myself to play and joined the Shropshire Strummers group in Church Stretton. With winter looming and facing a 20 mile drive in the dark to the club, I set about starting a group in Bridgnorth.
My first session at The White Lion attracted about 30 players from far and wide, one of which was Barrie.
Over the following years, the club has thrived. We have played everywhere from market halls to the big stage at festivals and taught both small WI groups and workshops attracting 200 players. Friendships have been forged, spin-off clubs have popped-up and the music on our website is being used countrywide by other clubs with our blessing.
However, all good things must come to an end and Barrie and I are now travelling in different directions.
The Wednesday night sessions at The All Forces Club, Bridgnorth will continue under new leadership and a new name. In time, there will also be a new website and Facebook page. In the meantime, I will leave the music on the website for everyone to enjoy as our legacy.
